My mother died from COVID-19 at age 89. She had been living in an assisted living facility in Georgia. She was struggling with some cognitive decline, but was mostly physically healthy prior to contracting COVID-19. My mother had been an educator and educational administrator, working with students with learning disabilities. She was also a strong activist, serving the LGBTQ community in Atlanta GA as President of PFLAG for almost 20 years. She was a vibrant, funny, passionate person, and we are grateful that she was able to vote in both the November 2020 and the Georgia runoff elections in January of 2021. She died a day before the insurrection, and would have been horrified by those events.
