My dad started having trouble breathing on July 17th but kept blaming it on “using too much bleach while cleaning.” I kept encouraging him to call a doctor just in case, but he said he was starting to feel better. On July 28th, the men who mow his lawn noticed him standing on his front porch looking very ill, so they ran over to his neighbor who ended up calling 911. He was extremely disoriented and needed oxygen immediately. He tested positive for Covid-19 and appeared to display all of the typical symptoms. He ended up going into cardiac arrest and passing away on August 2nd after being in the ICU for 3 days and on a ventilator for only 2 days. We all said our goodbyes via speakerphone, and that’s been the hardest part for me. I wish he (along with so many others) didn’t have to die alone. I wish there was something that could change to allow family members to be with their loved one in their final moments. I will miss him and love him every day for the rest of my life.
